All I can say is everything I have, everything I am, and everything I achieved in life are the direct result of Allen's inspiration and his quiet example. Without trying and without knowing, he demonstrated what was possible through hard work and determination. I miss you, big brother, and will love you always.

I couldn't have asked for a better addition to our extended family. Allen brought humor, energy, and good spirits where ever he went. He is gone far too soon, and he will be missed, but always remembered. Family holidays won't be the same without him.

My friendship with Allen started when we were teenagers. He is the person that got me interested in bicycle racing. Allen's excitement about the sport was contagious. His encouragement and enthusiasm led me to a lifelong vocation. All the good things in my life can be traced back to my friendship with Allen and the path guided by his influence. Thank you Allen for everything.

I am shocked and deeply saddened to hear this heartbreaking news. Allen was truly one of the most wonderful people I have ever had the privilege of knowing. Over 25 years we worked together, I came to admire not only his intelligence and expertise but, also his kindness, integrity, and genuine character. He was one of the smartest people I've ever met, yet he always took the time to help others and share his knowledge. I am so grateful to have called Allen a mentor and someone from whom I learned so much throughout the years. His guidance, wisdom, and friendship made a lasting impact on my life and career, and I will always cherish those memories. I deeply regret not staying in touch with him and Clare and not taking the opportunity to reconnect more often once he retired. It is a reminder of how precious time is and how important the people we care about truly are. My heartfelt love, prayers, and sincerest condolences go out to Clare and his beautiful family during this incredibly difficult time. Allen will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all whose lives he touched. I feel truly blessed to have known him and will always be grateful for the impact he had on my life.

When I was in high school in the early 1980s, Allen built me a set of racing wheels. I took them to Denmark and raced them on old farm roads for a year. They still are perfectly true and solid as the man who built them and his memory we share. I send my warmest wishes to all of Allen’s family and friends.

I will never forget Mr. Slaughter and his great smile and sense of Humor. His daughters Peggy and Sarah were the same age as my brother and I and so we grew up together from Elementary School to and through high school. I know the saying is that it takes a village to raise a child and I am happy to say Mr. Slaughter was a part of mine. When he was a timer at our Swim Meets challenging me to push myself further, harder, or faster. I will never forget one specific meet where our coach was harping on me to rise to a challenge to earn us some crucial points. I was sick and throwing up before the race and he happened to be in my lane. After putting all out there. He helped me out of the pool. Exhauste, wet, and not feeling well. He helped me to get my towel dry off and was there with a hearty part on the back and a little, “You did it!” In my ear. I will never forget that. He was a great friend of the family and a great example for me to aspire too. I am sorry we weren’t as close after he moved but he was definitely part of my youth I won’t forget.

I was fortunate to have met Allen. His kindness, and his willingness to help you if you needed it, was Allen's way in life. We had partnered up in a golf event not thinking we had a chance, but we won!! He enjoyed golf and was happy to share his favorite beer (PBR) after. I would bump into Allen and Clare at the gym, because that's what the Slaughters did, along with riding bikes (a crazy amount of miles). And yes, that laugh was his own. You'll be missed, friend. My condolences to you, Clare, and your family. 🙏

Although I never really got to know Allen other than a brief conversation here and there, I always enjoyed watching him cycle through the neighborhood, often at speeds above the limit, with Clare following close behind him. He fought his disease with the same tenacity he rode his bike, which was an inspiration to all of us. Clare, my thoughts are with you and your family.

Allen was a good man who was always willing to lend a hand. All members of our community will feel his absence.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Clare! May Allen rest in eternal peace. I remember Allen from our high school years and the fun we had. I loved watching him and Paul and Boo race their bicycles through Rock Creek Park, and the laughs that we all shared….
